EVIOS ModesUpdated 2 years ago

Summary

There are three modes to choose from to charge your car with the EVIOS One:

Pure Speed:
This mode will simply charge your car at the maximum rate allowed by the charge point and your vehicle, ensuring your car is ready to go as soon as possible.  While this will provide the fastest charge, it may not use the lowest cost or greenest energy.

Pure Value:
Takes any home generated power (such as solar or wind turbine) that you have at your property, and uses that to charge your vehicle.  If that power falls below a minimum level, your EVIOS One will wait until your energy tariff is offering an off-peak rate and start charging your car from the grid.  Ideal for day to day charging,

Pure Green:
Charges your car using only home generated power (such as solar or wind turbine)  from your property.  This will be the greenest (and lowest cost) way to charge, but unless there is a lot of power being generated at your property, this is likely to take a lengthy period to charge your vehicle.  Ideal if you don’t travel far very often, or for keeping your car topped up while you’re away.

How to change modes

There are two ways to change modes, both very easy:

On the charge point itself:

Go into ‘settings’, and then ‘mode’ select the mode you want to charge in, and it’s set!  The home screen will show you which mode you’ve selected via an icon.

In the EVIOS app:

Click on the central of the five icons at the bottom of the screen (the one that looks like a plug).  That will open a screen with the three modes shown.  Simply click the one you want and the charge point will be re-configured.

Just remember that you won’t be able to change into Pure Green or Pure Value modes while the car is plugged in and charging.

Deep Dive into modes

Pure Speed

This mode will charge at the maximum power available, to ensure your car is ready to go as soon as possible.  If there is home generated power available, Pure Speed will use this and top it up with grid power in order to make the charging session as green and low-cost as possible.  Charging costs will be calculated based on the tariff that’s in place at the time of the session.  Using Pure Speed mode will mean that you won’t be making the most of any low-cost energy that’s available to you.

Pure Value

Reduces your cost of charging as far as possible.  Home generated power will be used when above 6 amps (the minimum charge rate for electric vehicles).  When home generated power is unavailable or lower than 6 amps, Pure Value mode will stand by until your energy tariff allows lower cost energy and charge when off-peak energy is available.  If you have multiple rates to your tariff (for example, a variable tariff such as Agile Octopus) Pure Value will avoid charging when the tariff is at its highest.

Where home generated energy is available at the same time as the off-peak tariff, your EVIOS One will top up the home generated power with grid power to enable faster charging.

It’s worth noting that Pure Value will stop charging when your tariff switches back to peak rate if insufficient home generated energy is available, so if you are on a tariff with limited low-rate periods your vehicle may not fully charge.

Pure Green

Charges solely from home generated energy, such as solar panels or wind turbines.  This power will only be used where generation is over 6 amps, as this is the minimum charge rate allowed by electric vehicles.

Pure Green won’t charge from the grid unless you override it with ‘boost’ mode (in which case, it will act in Pure Speed) and so may result in extended charge times depending on the weather and the scale of your home generation equipment.

Home Generated Power

Home generated power will be used where possible and topped up from the grid to make up the maximum supply available

Home generated power will be used where it’s above 6 amps.

Home generated power will be used where it’s above 6 amps.

Tariff

Tariff won’t be taken into account, although your tariff details will be used to calculate how much that charge has cost.

The EVIOS One will schedule charging to take place when your tariff is low.  If you have a multiple-rate tariff, the EVIOS One will avoid charging at peak times.

No power will be used from the grid
